Week 3 Story: Twin Sisters

There was once a pair of twin sisters who were complete opposites of one another. The first sister, Kalyn, was a lover of the world who wanted to spread happiness and help people love themselves. However, her sister Roxie did not share the same love. Roxie wished for everyone to envy her, she placed herself above everyone else.

The two sisters attended the same school, and it was time for fundraising week in which Kalyn was very involved. Roxie liked to think of herself as involved, but she mostly wanted pictures to post on her social media platforms to gain followers and more attention. This angered Kalyn, and since Kalyn was head of fundraising she avoided including Roxie in any of the plans.

These actions greatly upset Roxie, so she devised a plan to ruin all of Kalyn's plans and make it look like it was Kalyn's fault. Roxie decided to switch the meeting location for the fundraiser by sending a message from Kalyn's phone while she was sleeping. Roxie emailed all people involved with the fundraiser and sent a random address to those people for the new meeting place.

The next day Kalyn woke up and got ready for the fundraiser. She arrived at the original location and to her surprise, no one was there. She frantically started calling everyone she knew, trying to find out where everyone was. Kalyn was quite confused when she learned that she had sent an email the night before changing the meeting place.

Kalyn decides to work with the situation and meets everyone at the place Roxie emailed incognito as Kalyn. Kalyn gets down to business and refused to let this fundraiser fail because of Roxie's actions. Kalyn was able to set everything up at the new location and held the most successful fundraiser the school ever had!

Author's note: I used the story of Kubera Ravana from the Tiny Tales of the Ramayana by Laura Gibbs. In the original story, Kubera and Ravana were completely opposite brothers. Ravana wanted to conquer the world while Kubera wanted to protect the world. I used this aspect of the story to create my own story of two opposite sisters.

  1. I like how you start the story with a contrast between two siblings who are very different. It makes for a nice dynamic start of the story. It did not seem very smart for Kalyn to let her sister know her password to her phone especially since Roxie is clearly very selfish. I also liked how at the end of the story how Kayln was able to work with everyone to have a successful fundraiser. It was a very practical ending.

  2. Hi Jessica! I think you did a great job crafting Kalyn as a caring, hard-working character who seems very representative of Kubera. For me personally, I am not a big fan of fundraising (on both the buying and selling side), but major props to Kalyn for being able to handle that responsibility and the often-awkward situations it creates! Roxie also acts just like I would imagine Ravana would in this scenario!

  3. Hey!

I love how the twins are complete opposites of each other. When one thinks of twins, they think that both of them are identical and loves the same things as one another. I understand that when one sister does everything for the good of the community and the other just wants popularity, it makes sense to leave the uninvolved sister out. I liked that regardless of Roxie’s attempt to foil Kalyn’s fundraiser, Kalyn was able to hold a very successful fundraiser for the community.
