Week 14 Story: Three Little Birds

There was once three little birds living in a forrest far away. The three birds had names which were: kind, most kind, and kind-less. The birds acted the same way their names described.

One day during hunting season, most kind was flying around warning other birds to stay hidden and far away from the popular hunting forests. Kind would remind every bird that flew by that it was hunting season. Kind-less would fly to the other birds nests that evacuated and steal their seeds they were saving.

While most kind was patrolling, looking for any birds left, he saw kind-less flying from tree to tree stealing seeds with a big chunky belly. Most kind said, "Stop! What are you doing? Those birds will need their food when they return!"

Kind-less ignored most kind and kept stealing seeds from other birds' nests. Kind-less was so self absorbed that he did not see the hunter aiming his rifle at him from under the trees.

Most kind saw this and began to worry, "Oh no! Kind-less is about to be shot!"

As the hunter had his sights aimed directly at Kind-less and was about to pull the trigger, most kind flew down and used his body to slam the rifle away from kind-less.

Startled by the gunfire, kind-less looked down and saw most kind flapping, injured on the ground. Once he saw the hunter he realized what had happened and thought, "He saved me, even when I treat all other birds horribly."

So kind-less flew down and picked up most kind, just before the hunter was able to grab him.

"You are not so Kind-less are you, thank you!" Said most kind, and from that day on most kind did not look at kind-less as the bird he used to.

Author's note: I based this story off of a story by Ellen C. Babbitt called "The three fish." In this story the fish's name were thoughtful, very thoughtful, and thoughtless. In that story the names represented the personalities of the fish, which is how I got my names for the birds. The story includes a fisherman catching thoughtful and thoughtless while very thoughtful saves them. My story does not have kind in any danger.

  1. Hi Jessica!
Oh my goodness, their names! I laughed when I read that. I cannot remember the tale that inspired your story, but I have a great understanding of what it is about thanks to your story. I'm really glad Kind-less had a change of ways in the end; it would not have felt as resolved had he not grown as a character. Did Most Kind ever heal completely since his injury? I hope so. Great story!
